About Beautiful Trouble
Since its publication in 2012, Beautiful Trouble: A Toolbox for Revolution has become a go-to activist resource, selling over 25,000 copies in 8 languages. During that time, we’ve trained more than 15,000 people via 250+ trainings in 25 countries. And we’re still going strong: just recently, we released a special Africa Edition of Beautiful Trouble and launched a crowdfunder for our new companion toolbox, Beautiful Solutions, due out in Spring 2021.
From our 500-word “chapters” to our strategy game that crystallizes generations of social movement wisdom into 99 cards, everything we write is action-ready, the size of a single idea that you can put to work. We are constantly asking ourselves how to get these resources into the hands of folks who can make the best use of them now. We use our social media channels to amplify creative actions in real time (see: @beautifultroublehq, Holy Shit! 7 Things to do instead of hoarding toilet paper, and this piece on creative actions in the BLM movement) and are constantly adding new pieces to our toolbox (most recently, the People’s Shock Doctrine), so our tools can evolve alongside the movements we serve.
We are seeking a new Communications Coordinator to amplify the reach of our toolbox, help us get organizing resources to those who most need them and inspire creative action for justice. This person will manage our digital strategy and maintain and grow our social media channels. We think of this position as “community-cations” — you’ll be responsible for building the wider Beautiful Trouble (BT) community of practice. You’ll also be the “CEO of external affairs.”
All Beautiful Trouble core staff work part-time and receive hourly pay at an equal rate of $30/hr across the team. This is a part-time consulting job with variable hours depending on project launch dates, breaking news, and such, in accordance with frequent social media posting needs. We have budgeted an average of 6-8 hours a week for this position.
